Waiting

This, I believe, is an American Dog Tick (Dermacentor variabilis). I spied here her at the edge of the woods as I was walking by. This is the first time I have ever seen a tick lying in wait. When I squatted down to look, she stuck out her front legs to either side, making her more like velcro. She refused to repeat the performance for the camera, however.

Now I have one more reason to hate lawn.
