Given the information about this sedge, I am surprised to find it growing in my shady forest. It likes wet, but typically it needs more sun than my woods get. But this little patch has been growing back every year, so it must like it here.

Given the information about this sedge, I am surprised to find it growing in my shady forest. It likes wet, but typically it needs more sun than my woods get. But this little patch has been growing back every year, so it must like it here.
Actually I think that's a sedge, not a grass. Here's the mnenomic device: Sedges have edges, rushes are round, grasses are hollow, which have you found?
ReplyDeleteThe fact that it's a sedge may or may not help you with identification. Some sedges can be attractive in the garden but others are pests so transplant or pick seeds carefully!
Ok. So I didn't make clear WHERE on the plant the edges, round and hollow areas are located. It's on the stem. For grasses this is the part closest to the ground - below the blade (leaf). On sedges it's usually easy to find.
